# site/purgecss

> Finds selectors in the built stylesheets that no page or script uses.

Finds selectors in the built stylesheets that no page or script uses.

Part of the [`site`](/reference/configurations/site/) configuration, at the `recommended` [level](/start/concepts/#levels). It runs at the `push` [stage](/start/concepts/#stage), once per scope. It runs purgecss. It needs a build of the project.

## Why

Visitors download an unused selector, and maintainers still read it.

## What to do

Delete the rule, or list a name a script adds at run time under tools.purgecss.safelist with a reason.

## Example

A built `.unused-banner` selector that no page or script uses reports a finding. Delete the rule, or list a class that a script adds under `tools.purgecss.safelist` with a reason.

## Turn it off

Turn it off for some files, with a reason:

```shell
gspot ignore site/purgecss --paths "<glob>" --reason "<why>"
```
