Checks that each tracked file over the size limit goes through Git LFS or has a reason.

Part of the [`repository`](/reference/configurations/repository/) configuration, at the `recommended` [level](/start/concepts/#levels). It runs at the `commit` [stage](/start/concepts/#stage), once for the repository. gspot runs this check itself.

## Why

A large file in plain Git history stays in every clone forever.

## What to do

Track the file with Git LFS, classify it as generated or vendored in .gitattributes, or raise repository.max\_file\_kilobytes with a reason.

## Example

A tracked `notes/big.txt` of 1,100 KiB, over the default limit of 1,024, reports `size`. Delete the file, or store it through Git LFS.

## Turn it off

Turn it off for some files, with a reason:

```shell
gspot ignore repository/large-files --paths "<glob>" --reason "<why>"
```
