# format/prettier

Checks each file Prettier handles for unformatted code.

Part of the [`format`](/reference/configurations/format/) configuration, at the `recommended` [level](/start/concepts/#levels). It runs at the `commit` [stage](/start/concepts/#stage), per file. It runs prettier. `gspot check --fix` fixes what it can.

## Why

Formatting by hand differs by editor; one formatter keeps diffs about the change and not the spacing.

## What to do

Run `gspot check --fix` to format every file, or `prettier --write` on one file.

## Example

A JavaScript file with `const value={enabled:true};` differs from the Prettier output. Run `gspot check --fix` to format it.

## Turn it off

Turn it off for some files, or one of its lint rules, with a reason:

gspot ignore format/prettier --paths "<glob>" --reason "<why>"
gspot ignore format/prettier --rule <rule> --reason "<why>"
```
