# files/yamllint

Parses every YAML file and checks its indentation, keys, and values with yamllint.

Part of the [`files`](/reference/configurations/files/) configuration, at the `recommended` [level](/start/concepts/#levels). It runs at the `commit` [stage](/start/concepts/#stage), per file. It runs yamllint.

## Why

A YAML file that parses to the wrong shape fails silently: a duplicated key wins, a stray tab changes the nesting.

## What to do

Fix the line yamllint names, or change rule options with `gspot set tools.yamllint.rules`.

## Example

Two `enabled` keys in one YAML mapping report a duplicate key. Keep one, and delete the other.

## Turn it off

Turn it off for some files, or one of its lint rules, with a reason:

```shell
gspot ignore files/yamllint --paths "<glob>" --reason "<why>"
gspot ignore files/yamllint --rule <rule> --reason "<why>"
```
